World Wetlands Day 2024

Projects of 3rd Idea Competition

In celebration of the World Wetlands Day 2024, this video shows our latest progress in the protection of coastal wetlands at the arid-semiarid Pacific coast of Chile, Peru and Ecuador.

With the launch of the third project idea competition exactly one year ago on the World Wetlands Day 2023, 9 proposals have been selected for financial and technical support through the Coastal Wetlands Initiative. This builds on the success of a total of 20 projects funded in 2019 and 2021, developed by local civil society organizations, universities, and research institutes in the framework of the initiativeĀ“s Action Plan. Focused on research and monitoring, sustainable management, clean-ups and creative educational campaigns, these projects are jointly working towards safeguarding the entire chain of these unique and valuable ecosystem that migratory birds and local populations rely on.

Through collaborative action uniting local communities, academics, and the private and public sector, we address existing threats, create awareness and build resilience to protect and restore coastal wetlands for a better future, both for nature and people.

Take a peek at our story and the new generation of projects in this short video.
