News about the Wetlands of Myanmar

Our study confirms the outstanding conservation values of river wetlands in Myanmar

Urgent protection needed

Our study, launched on World Wetlands Day, summarises the water bird survey results of three winters on the Ayeyarwady river section between Myitkyina and Bagan. It highlights the international importance of the Upper Ayeyarwady River for water bird populations and river dolphins and the threats to the river. We propose its designation as Ramsar site.

The results were published on February 2., 2021 in the Asian Journal for Ornithology ‘Forktail’: Surveys of riverine birds along the Ayeyarwady River [pdf]

Military coup 2021: We feel for the people of Myanmar! We continue our conservation work with our local partners.
